Overview

Since joining the course iv been interested in doing a lot more lighting, already having a background in CAD and modelling I started learning lighting in capture and now have move to mainly using ETCs Augment 3D, its free and much more accessible, only issue I really have with it is the lack of fixture models. Due to this enjoyment of building models I spend a lot of time experimenting and working on my design skills, below are some of these projects. I have now gained a reputation of one of the people on the course that is an expert in augment.

Studio A Model

Made in blender, the Studio A model was one of the first models I made for augment, I knew I would need this a lot during a lot of lighting projects being done in studio A.

Studio A (Traverse Version)

Studio A Traverse is an adapted version of the original studio A model I created to visualise ahead of spring awaking for my own experimentation more than anything else. This was done before crews had even been confirmed but I came up with some placement which was similar to the final design.

Studio A Work In Progress Busking Rig

Also based off of the original studio A model my work in progress busking rig, designed to be mostly accessible by the ground with a slight rearrangement of the movers in the rig. It features Cores, Cobs, Mac 250s and sun strips as well as the almost default rig. I will be working on a show file and I hope to be able to build this possibly during the summer in collaboration with other course members.  (Models shown in the image are not true representations of the fixtures)

Large Stage Experimentation

Iv been wanting to run lights for a live music stage in the open, again for my experimentation I built a big stage rig to play around with and programmed a short sequence. The models from this project were taken from sketchup warehouse. Im really happy with this project and have been able to create some great designs, the main fixtures to note are the ETC Coloursource Linears up the sides and back as well as the Martin Mac Air FX which have some amazing gobos and effects for a great look. The model audience really adds a lot to the experience. I think I will develop this project further but its a great demo piece.

Waterside Theatre Recreation Project

Waterside theatre is my home venue I casual at, this is one of my flag ship projects creating the entire stage and auditorium of the venue. It took me around a week to complete the main auditorium in realistic detail including PA, Moving seating lifts and Lx Bars which was completely unnecessary but I wanted to see what I could do and have something I could show to people.  One of the amazing things about this model is that I can view the stage from any seat or position in the venue and it gives me a real experience of the show.

I put in a demo show based off of the recent panto Aladdin which I went to see, the model as a hole was created in blender but all the materials and set were built in augment using editor tools. The rig was also as realistic as I could make it recreated based off of photos and articles. I focused all of the bridges and bars to accommodate this show.

In a rig of this size a magic sheet for programming was essential and it was one of the first proper magic sheets I had practice at creating.

Below is an image taken from the actual show which I used to create my visualisation.

Perranwell Centre Work In Progress Viz

Myself and Ben are doing lighting for a wizard of oz show at the perrenwell center, this was a quick model I created so we could play around with some design concepts, not my best work but really if all you want to see is some basic lighting setups this is more than enough you dont always need super detailed models. This is very much work in progress and as current doesn’t have a rig but I thought I would include it as I’m using visualisation in real world work.
